tomorrow’s the big day. the day our boy turns ONE. wrapping gifts and decorating with rainbows 🌈 to distract myself (an impossible task!) from dwelling on the fact that he’s not here in my arms.

adoption is wonderful. I wouldn’t change a single thing of how God’s built our family. but it is hard. there are moments my heart feels crushed. that the waiting feels like forever. the little, silly moments we’re missing - like a smash cake. I know God redeems all. I know Pax is loved and deeply cared for by his foster family. and that is such comfort.

but today I’m sad. today is hard. today I want my baby home.

We’re all about Black History Month on our bookshelf and with our @themagicplaybook printables. We turned the card game into learning decor. 🤎Doing a walk through of some of the books we’re including on the shelves in my “Black History” highlight. Ps. I’m not a pro at this, I humbly admit I have work to do. But we’re chasing after inclusion, love, celebration, understanding, and a real look at history.

How to keep an active five year old still?! 🤪 Best solution so far?? Shine-a-Light books and a dark reading fort. He’s been in there for 30 minutes with no signs of being done.

These books are magic! Not only are they fun, they make nonfiction into a game. They use fine motor skills to turn on flashlights. They use deductive reasoning to figure out where to shine on dark places. And they emphasize prediction (one of the most helpful skills in raising a reader) as kids think what might be about to shine through on the page.

Play matters. Being able to process anxiety, stress, and trauma through books, toys, and games is essential to children. Especially those experiencing hospital procedures or stays.

Our beloved hospital @archildrens is in need of our help. Due to Covid, they’ve had to restructure how they are able to serve children.

Playgrounds, common spaces, and the volunteer program are all on hold right now due to safety measures. They are in need of things kids can do independently or with a caregiver. Here is where you can help...

This week I am collecting donations and have a matching gift from Usborne Books & More at 50% of whatever we raise. My goal is to stock their toy closet with so many amazing resources for patients to learn from, play with, and use to heal.

We've been home for a few days now and Keller's healing pretty well - but we're still finding our groove and working through emotions and keeping a 5 year old still, so keep those prayers rolling (thanks!!)

Coming tonight Keller and I are SO excited to share a giveback project to love on the children's hospital that's meant so much to our family, there's a big need there and we want to help!

Big smile for heading home!!! Keller is one happy camper about his new couch zone with all his toys and movies on demand.

He’ll be laying low and being still (right... he’s five!?! 🤦🏻‍♀️) for a while and missing school for a few weeks as we find our new rhythm and routine. Thank goodness for sticker books and Disney+
.
We are deeply grateful for the prayers over safety during his surgery, and would love to have you join us in praying that this procedure helps make life easier for him. We know God made him exactly as he is on purpose and has great plans for him. It is our honor and blessing to be able to love and lead him as parents. Thank you for walking with us and being a part of his story!!
.
We met some really neat people at the hospital (take that Covid, you can’t ruin all the relationships & connection!!!!) and this coming week, Keller and I want to love on them with a fundraiser. So be watching for the details ❤️ If you’d like to join in, we’d love to have you!!

We had a great night with a few hours of sleep for each of us here and there. Keller got good reports from the rounding docs this morning. And CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM makes everything better. This is Keller’s best life - sugary treats and TV - ha! But seriously, we’re so grateful things are going smoothly so far.
.
There are a few things he needs to be able to do and we have to talk over with his team before we can go home, but we’re hoping that happens this weekend!
.
We’re overwhelmingly grateful for your prayers and know it is the hand of God holding Keller and healing his body. Thank you, friends!

This sweet, brave boy is now sleeping and resting

This sweet, brave boy is now sleeping and resting off his big day. It was a scheduled surgery - one we’ve been hoping and planning for since he came home from China. His medical team was happy about how the surgery went and really hopeful for how this helps him in the future.
.
As I’ve shared before, Keller has some medical complexities and special needs, but those are his to share as he gets older. But we are optimistic that’s today’s surgery will help him find confidence and comfort and he’ll have fewer daily accommodations needed.
.
We’ll be here for a few days finding our groove and making sure everything looks good. Keller is the strongest kiddo I know and amazes us all with his courage and heart!
.
Thank you all so much for the prayers and thoughts and messages. It means so much to know we are all surrounded with such love.
